Pacific Shores, Region 12, supports our regional choruses' efforts to promote belonging, inclusion and diversity for all ages, races, ethnicities, religions, and LGBTQ+ community. True harmony cannot exist while racism, injustice, and inequality are represented in our lives. We encourage you to visit our choruses and learn more about our organization's diverse, inclusive, welcoming culture, commitment to musical excellence, and emphasis on education in the style of barbershop harmony.

Founded in 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sweet Adelines International started as a small group of women who wanted to participate in the chord-ringing, fun-filled harmony called “barbershop” that the men were singing. Since then, it has evolved into an organization of nearly 21,000 singers, connecting women around the world in one sisterhood.  Sweet Adelines is dedicated to preserving the unique sound of a cappella barbershop harmony, sharing our passion for music and empowering women in every area of their lives. They welcome women of all nationalities and backgrounds to join in the joy of barbershop harmony.

Sweet Adelines International is separated into 24 regions that span the globe. Region 12 dates its history back to 1952 when it was part of Northwestern Region 12. By 1955, Oregon and Washington were split off into Region 13, and the newly-named Central Pacific Region 12 spanned Northern California, northern Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Western Montana. In 1975, another boundary change created Pacific Shores Region 12, including Northern California, Northern Nevada and Oregon.  Additional boundary changes in 1981 and 2013 have created the current Pacific Shores Region 12, which includes Northern California, Northern Nevada, Southern Oregon and one chorus in Hawaii.

Up until 1999, the governance of the region was the task of a Regional Board of Directors, headed by a Regent. Starting in the 1999-2000 fiscal year, the governance has been the task of a Regional Management Team. The Regional Management Team is responsible for supporting the choruses and quartets in the region and for providing educational opportunities for its members throughout the year.

RCSC Past & Present

There are over 20 choruses in Region 12 and an even larger number of quartets.  These groups strive for singing and performing at the highest level possible, and to that end choruses and quartets compete annually at a Regional Convention, usually held in late April or early May in the Reno, Nevada area.  Winners in the quartet and chorus competitions are eligible to compete at International Conventions, held in the fall each year. Typically our second place chorus qualifies as a Wild Card chorus in the International Competition, and we have had a number of Wild Card quartets as well.  Region 12 is proud to say that several quartets and one chorus have won the International competitions.

The Sweet Adelines choruses of Region 12 welcome you to come, visit and sing with us. Our choruses and quartets love to entertain by putting on musical events each year for the community, our friends, and families. They put on local shows and performances, send "singing telegrams" on holidays, and bring music to retirement homes, nursing homes and civic events all during the year.

Please check out the menu items at the top of this page for more information on what is occurring in our region as well as contact information for each of the Region 12 choruses and quartets.  Our Management Team will also be glad to answer any additional questions you might have.
